Grinning vs Smiling

My mom and I tried to capture some of Harrison's smiles today. The smiles are hard to get on camera because 1. my mom's camera is slow and 2. he becomes so enthralled with the camera, that he stops smiling. I was asking my mom to send me some pictures of him that she took and I said, "send me that one of him smiling." She replied with "you mean the one of him grinning?" I thought that I was specific when asking for the one smiling, but according to her, there is a difference between a "smile" and a "grin." My mom proceeded to show me the difference between a "smile" and a "grin." I wish I had that on camera, because to me, I couldn't see a difference. If you have an opinion, I would love to hear it. But for now, here are some pictures of Harrison grinning/smiling.

This grandma has always thought that a grin is bigger than a smile. Here are some dictionary definitions (I'm smiling as I write):

Encarta - GRIN: smile broadly: to smile broadly, usually showing the teeth
Encarta - SMILE: make pleasant expression with mouth: to raise the corners of the mouth in an expression of amusement, pleasure, or approval

Oxford - GRIN verb (grinned, grinning) smile broadly
Oxford - SMILE verb form one’s features into a pleased, friendly, or amused expression, with the corners of the mouth turned up.

Cambridge - GRIN noun a wide smile
Cambridge - SMILE noun a facial expression in which the ends of the mouth curve up slightly

Hey, Mandy: I found some comments by other folks about smiles v. grins and thought I'd share:

"A smile is when you say Hello. Grin is what you have when you know there is a delicious brownie waiting for you at home. A smirk is more of a 'told you so' thingy."

From someone's post: "Well, he was giving more of a grin than a smile, but Gravel’s appealing to me specifically because he isn’t trying to be a nice guy. I’d love to see a Kucinich/Gravel ticket though. It’d be like Good Cop/Bad Cop working towards the same goals."

However, much thought these days is that there isn't much difference in the two.

who cares if he is grinning or smiling- he looks cute doing either, and or both! give him kisses for me.
My camera is a Sony A200 SLR. it takes great pictures very quickly- the only slight drawback is that you cant see the picture in the back screen until you take it. it sounds like it would be a problem but it really isnt. i love it!
